Necropolis

Theater / dance

Necropolis is a striking show. A work at the crossroads of documentary and virtual reality, it brings together actors, directors and lighting designers around the Israeli choreographer Arkadi Zaides, and includes an enigmatic position: Search and localisation of graves. Forty-nine people have filled this role, surveying 600 cemeteries from the north to the south of Europe in order to give an identity and a history to those who have died while migrating. Sitting on stage in front of a screen next to dancer Emma Gioia, Zaides projects a map on which the mouse zooms in to open one or other of the graves of the 45,000 dead counted by United for Intercultural Action since 1993 – graves whose bodies, for the most part, have no name, no age and no history. Then he stands up and reconstructs the history of a fragmented body that begins its walk towards the necropolis of memory.

Both performances will be followed by a meeting between Arkadi Zaides and the audience, in the presence of a representative of the Forensic Unit of Central Tracing Agency in Geneva and a member of the association SOS Méditerranée.
