Dance
Taoufiq Izeddiou has spearheaded contemporary dance in Morocco, where he created the On marche festival. In his dance shows, he creates bridges between tradition and new forms of creation. Hmadcha bears witness to this commitment. Inspired by the Moroccan Sufi ritual of the Hmadcha brotherhood, his choreography drives each of the seven dancers into a collective trance that will help name and exorcise the taboo and regulate the social order. Everything calls for the elevation of the spirit to welcome the dancers on stage one by one: the monumental and sober architecture, the lights, sometimes solar and sometimes white, which sculpt the stage with shadows, and the repetitive accompaniment of traditional music. Imperceptibly, variations integrate the picture of this mesmerising choreography, mixing dance moves, introducing electronic rock and classical music, liberating the singularities of the bodies without leaving the chorus. Izeddiou has the talent to bring worlds together. Hmadcha is masterful evidence of this.
