Founded in 1992, South African company Via Katlehong Dance draws its name from the township where the Pantsula protest culture was born. Since then, the group has invited choreographers to work with them, combining tradition with its own new approach to blending protest and voices. Via Injabulo mixes the technical and rhythmic prowess of Via Katlehong with two choreographers invited to write a piece for each of them: Amala Dianor and Marco Da Silva Ferreira, two unique worlds at the crossroads of cultures. On the one hand, the French choreographer of Senegalese origin is inspired by tradition, contemporary dance and hip-hop and has written Emaphakathini, a tribute to freedom and emancipation, based on the personal stories of the performers. On the other hand, the Portuguese choreographer's førm Inførms showcases a burning sense of urgency, the topicality of clubbing and the memory of bones. A meeting in two parts for a poetic fusion of otherness.
